Personal

I was born in Philadelphia in 1969 and grew up in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. I attended college at Temple University in Philadelphia, and graduated summa cum laude in 1991.  While there, I spent a semester in Jerusalem and traveled to Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Turkey.  After graduation, I worked for the Refugee Assistance Program in Philadelphia, helping immigrants and refugees find jobs.

I attended Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC, where I was a Senior Editor of the Georgetown Immigration Law Journal. I published immigration-related articles in that journal, as well as the Hispanic Law Journal (University of Texas Law School) and the Temple University Law School Journal of Political and Civil Rights. Also, while at Georgetown, I worked for the Refugee Bureau of the U.S. State Department. In between clerkships and jobs, I made trips to South-East Asia, North Africa, and Europe. Most recently, I spent several months in Nicaragua, studying Spanish and volunteering for the Sisters of Charity (Mother Theresa’s organization).
